Vail Wedding Planner :: Kirsten & Adam, Beaver Creek Chapel & Donovan Pavilion

Kirsten and Adam’s wedding was beautifully sweet and sincere and simple.

Early in conversations with her she said something to the effect that she didn’t really like color. She liked the idea of a colorless wedding. She felt, rightly so, that the natural beauty of a Beaver Creek and Vail area were enough beauty. I’d add that the love, friendship and fun they share and that surrounds them in their relationships with their family and friends only accentuated that beauty.

Customized Labels from Pinhole Press

Infusing weddings with a couple’s interests, passions, hobbies, and in general, the things they like and who they are is what I do. You might be able to argue it’s my favorite part of what I do. I believe there are all kinds of options and touch-points for achieving this.

For the couple that loves wine or local microbew or even their own home brew, these labels from Pinhole Press are perfect.  I also think they’d be fun on a bottle of homemade bath gel, real maple syrup from the bride or groom’s home in the Northeast, apple cider from a local farm, olive oil from Northern California. There are a ton of options! What would you do with them?

Talia Events’ New Bookette is Now Available!

If you haven’t done so already, drop me a line and I’ll be happy to send you a copy of my new bookette, From tone to hue, which ones are best for you? 5 Tips for Choosing Your Wedding Colors.

As you’ve likely heard me say before, I think that choosing two colors and matching everything to them is old news, but having some sense of the colors you’d like to incorporate in your big day is helpful for several reasons. If the range of the rainbow is beyond overwhelming, these tips will help you pare down the choices.

Call me hopelessly romantic, a personal confession of my love for Missed Connections

It’s true. I love the Missed Connections segment of craigslist. If you’re not familiar, it’s the place on the site where people list anonymous postings asking the person they saw earlier that day, that week, month or even year who they’d like to re-connect with to contact them. Essentially, it goes something like, “I saw you in the frozen foods section. You, Chunky Monkey. Me, Whirled Peace. I’d love to share a pint with you soon…”

My love affair with these little morsels goes back years. When I lived in San Francisco, I read them almost daily and was thrilled to find an art exhibit by chance one day that was made up of photos with the descriptive Missed Connection posted at the bottom. For the two above, it would have been a photo of two people, sheepishly peering through the freezer doors over their pints of ice cream with those undeniable little smirks of love on their faces.

Anyway, fully aware that I’m venturing off the trail of wedding-related advice or eye candy, I hope you’ll allow me this chance to share that Missed Connections have grown up and now have their own book. It sounds like the perfect accompaniment to a cup of tea and crisp, fall night to me!

A Quick Peek from Substance

I was honored to be a part of Substance again this past weekend. If you’re not familiar with it, Substance is a workshop put on my Jenna Walker and Katie Thurmes from Jenna Walker Photography for fellow photographers to come and learn more about the craft, gain a bit of inspiration and being a female entrepreneur.

This is the second workshop and the second chance I’ve had to be a part of designing a Styled Shoot for the participants to “play” with and experience what it takes to capture a wedding. I can’t wait to share the professionals’ takes of the day, but for now, just had to share this picture of the centerpiece created by Cori Cook at Cori Cook Floral Design. It’s a glimpse, albeit an amateur one taken with my phone (I know, gasp!), a little snippet into the overall design…with more to come.

Including a Croquembouche in Your Wedding Dessert Display

I am doing some styling and consulting for a local bakery that’s excited about offering Colorado brides wedding cakes. Mid-way through a conversation the other day, it came up that she makes a croquembouche. I was so excited. I’ve seen them from time to time on wedding and party blogs, but wasn’t aware of anyone in the area willing to make one.

If you’ve never heard of or seen a croquembouche, you’re in for a treat. As Wikipedia describes, it’s a French cake or dessert often served at important celebrations, including weddings. It’s essentially a cone of cream puffs that are adhered to the structure with carmel and then usually decorated with threads of spun sugar and sometimes adorned with flowers, sugared almonds or ribbons.

They’re dramatic, beautiful and French. Need I really say more?
