Boulder Wedding Planners :: Sarah & Sunny, a lovely rustic yet refined farm wedding at Pastures of Plenty

Sarah and Sunny gave Talia Events a call just a couple months before their summer wedding. They had taken care of a good deal of the pre-planning, but needed our help refining their wedding’s design and assistance with some last-minute logistics.

They chose to get married at Pastures of Plenty, a working farm just outside of Boulder that hosts weddings, dinners and gatherings. Sarah at Painted Primrose created brightly colored bouquets and floral arrangements to infuse the day with an understated Asian influence. Each centerpiece was designed in a low glass bowl with a sloping bed of rocks, like a beach. In the water at one end, we placed a floating candle and at the other a Ikebana-inspired floral arrangement. The cake from Shamane’s Bake Shoppe carried on the bright red with a band of ribbon around each layer and fresh flowers adorning the top.

Guests were treated to cookie favors. Each guest picked up a small bag that they were invited to fill with a few of the couple’s favorite cookies.

It was a pleasure working with the two of them to create a day that was refined, yet rustic, made the best of the scenery around Boulder and was indicative of their roots.  Congratulations Sarah and Sunny, thanks for making Talia Events a part of your Boulder wedding!

Carpets of Flowers for Your Wedding Centerpiece

Carnations get a bad rap. I’m not saying that it’s not due, but really, I’ve been thinking that there’s got to be a place for them. We’ve seen a revival of baby’s breath, don’t carnations deserve the same?

Bonay, a Spanish florist may have found a place for carnations to reach their glory, flower carpets. Essentially, it’s an arrangement that involves placing the flowers really tight together and low in a container so their petals almost act like blades of grass. It’s all texture in either one color or a range. Other flowers fill in the gaps, but carnations definitely make their appearance.

I think they’d be an interesting option for a modern, but organic look. They’re functional in that they don’t inhibit conversation and could be created in long, low containers and set down the center of a long table.

What do you think? Love them too?

Chalkboard Inspiration

Chalkboards have burst onto the design scene in the last few years. I’m not sure who started it or where it began, but they’ve definitely moved beyond the classroom.

Wait, do kids even have chalkboards in their classrooms anymore? I hope so, there was always something about being called to the board and going back to your desk with chalk on your hands–the perfect “touch” to the grass stains on your jeans from recess.

They’re a wonderful touch to a wedding. Whether they show up throughout your wedding decor or in just a place or two, they’re great accents to further a vintage, country, mod or downhome asthetic.

Here are a few fun ideas:

a little flag to indicate which cupcake flavor is which on your dessert bar…

Adorn the wine glasses.

Wall decals are great additions to a photobooth or a series of them could merge one area of the ceremony or reception space with another

To denote the bride’s quarters, the restrooms, or a green room

These simple cards could be stood upright or placed in a cardholder and used for table numbers

DIY on a Day That Ends in Y: Ribbon Wands

There are DIY projects that are, well, projects. And then, there are those that are fun, easy and really simple, but add a certain touch. These ribbon wands are one of the latter.

Fun alternatives for flower girls, a smaller version would be the perfect replacement for birdseed or bubbles during the recessional and I could even imagine clusters of a larger version in a large urn or pot for ceremony or reception decor.

What would you do with a ribbon wand or two? Wish for more of them?

Monograms Decoded

monogramMonograms have grown up! They’ve gone beyond the lapel of a robe, stationery or luggage and out into the world of weddings. They’re depicted on doors, on napkins, on favors, there’s really no space that’s not been touched.

Monograms are a wonderful way to personalize your wedding, but before you order one in flowers to adorn the door of your reception site, keep these keys in mind:

A traditional  monogram for an individual is usually 3 letters, one representing the person’s first name, one the middle and a final for the last name. The last name initial appears in the center, the first name initial appears to the left of it and the middle name initial appears to the right of it.

When designing a monogram for a married or engaged couple, however, it usually reduces to 2 letters. may use two-letter monograms of their entwined initials, for example on wedding invitations.monogram cake

Married couples may also create three-letter monograms incorporating the initial of their shared last/sur name. For example, the monogram MSA might be used for Mark and Ann Smith.

You may also reduce the monogram to a single letter. A simple, wooden H may hang behind the head table for the Hendersons who just exchanged vows.

Whatever the use and however you choose to incorporate them, monograms don’t have to be stuffy. Cover your initials in fabric, choose varieties of sizes and colors or iron letters onto your penant flags. Have fun, it’s a romantic way to depict your union as husband and wife!
