A Basket Full O’ Love for Your Wedding Centerpieces

It’s no secret that I love flowers. However, I think non-floral centerpieces can be a lot of fun. This time of year, as the peaches and fresh tomatoes arrive each week in our farm share box, these pretties catch my eye!

Seasonal Signature Drinks: Springtime is bloomin’

Fresh, crisp and light are keys for springtime signature drinks. It’s a great time of year to incorporate herbs and plants rather than just fruits and dried spices. Think lavender and thyme and mint and rose.

Here’s a few that fit the bill:

Blushing Bride

Lavender Champagne

Vodka-Thyme Lemonade

Rose Wine Punch

Blackberry Crush

Seasonal Signature Drinks: Summery Sips

This week, we’re posting a series of seasonal signature drink recipes. If you’re not familiar with the idea of signature drinks, they’re a special drink (normally alcoholic, but certainly not necessary) served at weddings’ cocktail hours and perhaps throughout the course of the evening’s festivities.

They’re also fun and appropriate for morning weddings, dessert buffets and even rehearsal dinners. The idea is to add a little  flare to the drink menu while limit the amount and perhaps variety of alcohol that needs to be purchased. It’s perfectly acceptable to offer guests beer, wine and a signature drink with one, two or no hard alcohol choices.

Without further ado, in honor of the hot, hot, hot weather, here are some recipes for summertime:

Pineapple Mimosas

Mango Mint Sparklers

Electric Lemonade

Fresh Melon Quenchers

Thanks to Better Homes and Gardens and Epicurious for these recipes and the photo above.

Denver Wedding Planner :: Caki & Ryan, University Club, Denver, Colorado

“Thank you so much for everything, it was so much freaking fun!” That was the initial response from Caki when I wrote her to make sure she was ok with me posting their wedding photos. She captured it perfectly, their wedding was a ton of fun. It was, like all my favorites, perfectly the two of them.

They incorporated her father’s collection of glass lamps on the mantel of the fireplace at the front of the ceremony, Caki put her incredible graphic design skills to use and made all kinds of little cute paper touches and signs, they played off his last name, Cook, and their love of food and gave each guest a small tin of rub for meat, they brought in a rockin’ gospel choir for their first dance and they laughed and played and were so much fun. It was truly a pleasure!

Colorado Wedding Designer :: Style File, take 2

Among other endearing qualities, this bride and groom are wonderfully whimsical, hold an affection for France and all things travel related and the bride in particular, is drawn to pale, soothing colors, including light green and pink.

I created a Style File for their outdoor Boulder wedding that incorporates these things. Although I like the idea of tipping my hat to their travels, I didn’t imagine their wedding to be travel-themed per se. A few subtle touches of maps and suitcases and little touches of French ticking fabric here and there will be sufficient to enhance their venue, Chautauqua Dining Hall which is already interesting, historic and dynamic.

Here’s a glimpse into some of my ideas for them:

The bride really likes the look of small clusters of flowers and multiple tea lights as centerpieces. I think that these pieces look best when they’re sitting atop a tray or tile or board or something to pull it all together. For them, I thought they could make a tray from a vintage picture frame and a map or French ticking fabric. It would sit in the middle of the table with flowers and candles placed on it.

Not all your centerpieces need to be the same. Choosing 2 or 3 designs and sprinkling them throughout the room, adds variety and interest. As a second centerpiece option, I imagined one of these small suitcases filled with flowers and lace or map-wrapped votives scattered around it.

What do you think? Do you like one centerpiece over the other?

I hope you’ve enjoyed this peek into how our Wedding Design Process works and taking a small look into what makes up one of Talia Events’ Style Files!

Colorado Wedding Designer :: Style File, take 1

This Style File was created for a couple planning a destination wedding in Vail next July. They live in Northern California and love vacationing in wine country. When we first spoke, the bride mentioned that she doesn’t really have favorite colors and didn’t really want to have wedding colors. She does, however, envision a classic wedding of white, grey and a few touches of black.

With these and a number of other pieces of information in mind, I created a Style File I affectionately called Just Tipsy. I wanted to be sure that the idea of incorporating wine into their reception didn’t mean that the entire thing was drowning in a wine theme per se. As I wrote:

…I’m imagining just a tipsy-ish touch of wine with fresh, summery white flowers and green grapes rather than red and just a few touches of cork and wine bottles. The inclusion of wine is subtle ensuring that it’s not a ―drunken‖ wine themed wedding, but rather a beautiful, crisp, Colorado affair that shows off the wine and wine country you love.

These are photos of just a couple of my favorite ideas:

It may be tough to see, but this cake stand is actually filled with moss and foliage. My idea is to create a similar stand to give some height and depth to their small cake, but fill it with wine corks the bride’s collected over the years.

Using wineglass tags for escort/place cards would create consistency and give guests something to talk about as they’re headed to their seats for dinner.

This is just a glimpse into this couple’s Just Tipsy Style File. Give Talia Events a call or send us an e-mail to discuss creating one for you and your big day!

Colorado Wedding Designer :: What we’re up to these days

As the forecast finally calls for snow, our thoughts turn to well, spring and summer and early fall. It’s an interesting juxtaposition for me as a Colorado wedding planner. Our wedding season primarily runs from the spring to November. Yes, we are blessed to be a part of mid-winter weddings in Boulder, Denver and throughout the Rocky Mountains, but the majority of our weddings happen during these months.

So, each year as I pull out the wool sweaters and put on the pot of soup, I am also thinking of and talking with clients about their summer and fall weddings.

If you’ve read anything about my philosophy for how Talia Events fits into your wedding plans, you know that we are planners and designers. We employ a unique Wedding Design Process that utilizes a series of engaging, fun activities to assist clients in determining what exists in their everyday lives that can become a base for their wedding design. I essentially uncover what’s already there.

As Talia Events’ About page reads, “I design days that are inspired by the littlest things—your affection for the mountains or the love of lavender—and are infused with the grandest like family and friends, joy and celebration, and your love for each other.”

The result of Talia Events’ Wedding Design Process is a clearer understanding of the perfect atmosphere to create for a particular couple. We’re not trying to set a theme per se, but instead establish feeling, an aesthetic that is uniquely them.

Restaurants like Chucky Cheese clearly have a theme, but others like Boulder’s The Kitchen or Happy, have decor that simply evokes a certain feeling. Wedding decor can create the same experience.

I often create a Style File for clients that outlines ideas for everything from their bouquets to their escort cards and how they add to the overall feeling.

I thought it would be fun to share a glimpse into a few Style Files I’ve recently created. For the rest of the week, I’ll share a bit from each to give you an idea of what a Style File is and to give you an idea of how useful it can be to creating your dream wedding.

Stay tuned…
